WEST CHESTER, Ohio — #4 Turpin opened up their tournament play against #24 Western Brown moments ago. The Spartans came in winning their last two games of the regular season. As for the Broncos, they are fresh off of a big win against Williamsburg on the road.
Turpin got some early production from a good amount of players in the first quarter as seven players all pitched in and pushed them out to an early lead. Senior guard Harry Tyszkiewicz was the high point man in the first as canned back-to-back three’s from each corner. For the Broncos, junior guard Zyon Tull wasn’t shy about letting it fly as he scored seven of Western Brown’s nine points including a deep pull-up triple at the horn. Nonetheless, the Spartans headed to the second quarter with a 19-9 lead.
In the second, Turpin came out hot scoring the first nine points of the quarter. However, Broncos senior guard Ian Shaffer came up big late in the period. Shaffer dropped in 8 points when things could have started to slip away. The Spartans still were able to win the frame and would go into the locker room leading by a dozen.
In the second half, Turpin was able to slowly distance themselves from Western Brown. Junior guard Theisen Lee scored 11 points in the final 16 minutes of the contest and the Spartans were able to put away the Broncos by a final count, 59-42.
Turpin had three guys finish in double figures in the scoring column. Lee tied a season-high with 15 points. While, Tyszkiewicz and junior guard Dominic Cantrella both finished with 10 points a piece. For Western Brown, Tull led the team with 14 points while Shaffer added 13 points of his own.
Now Turpin will turn their eyes to the last game of the night at Lakota West High School as they will get the winner of #12 Elder (13-9, 2-4) and #26 Anderson (8-14, 5-9).
